Guidance for one who feels intrusive thoughts and distress after becoming righteous

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence! This questioner says: that she is one of the listeners to this beneficial program, and she mentions that at the beginning of her life she says: I was very indulgent in many sins, and a problem occurred that upended my life, so I sought help from Allah against it and found psychological comfort and true happiness when I returned to Allah. So I maintain the prayers at their times, I fast three days every month, I read the Qur'an, and I praise and thank Allah for that.
And after years of righteousness, I felt some psychological illnesses afflicting me at times, and intrusive thoughts and ideas and distress in my soul; I feel as if someone is squeezing my throat whenever I remember my sins. I want to be at ease with my prayer, but I am not at ease, neither with my prayer nor with my sleep, nor even with my reading. I ask Your Eminence to guide me with these words.

Answer:
This new distress is from Shaytan. So what is prescribed for you at that time is to increase seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan, and to remember the mercy, favor, and kindness of Allah, for He (Exalted and Majestic is He) accepts the repentance of those who repent, and He is the One who said: :
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[An-Nur: 31] And He said, Glorified is He:
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَى
[Ta-Ha: 82] So repentance wipes out what came before it, and praise be to Allah.
And beware of the intrusive thoughts of Shaytan, and be reassured about the righteous deeds, piety, and righteousness to which Allah has guided you. And beware of the stings of Shaytan. Be open-hearted and good-natured with what Allah has guided you to of His obedience, His oneness, His remembrance, and righteous deeds. And whenever something of the intrusive thoughts is presented to you, say: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and spit to your left three times, and seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan three times. And be glad with good news. Frustrate the enemy of Allah, Shaytan, by seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan. And be open-hearted with trust in Allah, that He is the Forgiving, the Merciful, and that He is the Generous, the Noble, and that He accepts the repentance of those who repent, and accepts the repentance of the sincere repenters. And be glad with good news.
