The ruling on praying at home when the mosque is nearby

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, we move on to Tunisia via a message sent by the listener al-Zahir Rabadi, our brother, who asks a collection of questions. In one of them, he says: There is a group who pray at home, and the mosque is close to them, at a distance of approximately one hundred meters. What is the ruling on their action?
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Praying at home is not permissible; rather, it is obligatory to pray in congregation for whoever is able. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.من سمع النداء، فلم يأت فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
It was asked of Ibn Abbas: What is the excuse? He said: “Fear and illness.” A blind man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide to lead me to the mosque. Do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do you hear the call to prayer?هل تسمع النداء للصلاة؟
He said: Yes. He said:
Then respond.فأجب
So this is a blind man who has no guide, and yet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says to him:
Respondأجب
Meaning: Answer the caller, the mu'adhdhin. Do not pray at home; pray with the Muslims.
These people who pray at home while the mosque is close to them have disobeyed Allah and wronged themselves. It is obligatory to repent to Allah and to hasten to the congregational prayer. We ask Allah for guidance for us and for them.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
