The Ruling on Performing the Witr Prayer in Congregation Outside of Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the listening brothers says: I am an Egyptian resident in Hawtat Bani Tamim. What is the ruling on performing the sunnah of witr after the 'Isha' prayer in congregation outside of Ramadan?

Answer:
There is no harm in that if the congregation performs the witr prayer outside of Ramadan, but it should not be made a habit. If they happen to agree and gather in someone’s house, or in any place, and pray in congregation, there is nothing wrong with it. However, making it a habit, gathering every night to perform witr, is not prescribed, except in Ramadan.
But if some of them visit others and they pray witr in congregation, that is good, if Allah wills. It is like when Salman visited Abu al-Darda' and prayed with him in congregation at night, may Allah be pleased with them both. It is also like when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited the grandmother of Anas and prayed with Anas and the orphan in congregation, with the women behind them. All of this is permissible. The thing that is not customary is only when it is accidental, or during a visit, where they pray in congregation, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, making it a habit every month, or every day, or every week, is not prescribed. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
