The Woman's Obligations Toward Her Husband
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a wife becomes angry with her husband, what is obligatory for her to do in that case?
Answer:
It is obligatory for her not to disobey her husband, and not to contradict his lawful and permissible commands. She must listen to and obey his lawful and permissible commands, and she must refrain from causing him harm.
Likewise, it is obligatory for him to refrain from causing her harm, to treat her with kindness, and to be good to her. They must both cooperate in righteousness and piety. If something happens that angers her, there is no blame on her if he insults her and she becomes angry. However, she must strive to control herself, and she must advise him against insulting and cursing. She should say to him, "Fear Allah, this is not permissible for you," using kind words.
There is no doubt that harm from him causes her anger. However, she must strive, endure, and be diligent in listening and obeying in what is right. She must advise him regarding his anger, cursing, or beating until the problem between them is resolved, as much as possible. If he does not do so, she has the right to leave for her parents' house and to file a complaint with the court.
