Question:
This man says that he feels he has committed a great sin. He says: "I even feel that I am a hypocrite, and that I am not safe from the punishment of Allah. So I have come to fear Allah, I fear my sins, I fear a bad ending, and I fear dying in a state of hypocrisy. So what do you advise me to do, O honorable Shaykh?"
Answer:
I advise you to be wary of these waswas (whispers) and to have good opinion of Allah. The Lord, (Exalted and Majestic is He), says:Sahih Muslim 2675d. So you must have a good opinion of Allah, and beware of having a bad opinion of Allah. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 4167Sahih (Darussalam). So the believer has a good opinion of his Lord, strives to obey his Lord, and repents to Him. If you feel that you have committed a sin, hasten to repent and return to Allah with regret. You must have a good opinion of Allah, for He is generous and bountiful, He forgives sins, and He accepts the repentance of those who repent. But do not feel secure, do not be lax. Be between hope and fear, as mentioned earlier. Hasten to obey Allah, beware of the sins of Allah, and have a good opinion of Allah, hoping in Him and fearing Him, (Glorified and Exalted is He). And beware of having a bad opinion of Allah, for this leads to despair and hopelessness. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

I live in the thought of My servant as he thinks of Me and with him as he calls Me.
أنا عند ظن عبدي بي، وأنا معه إذا دعانيNo one of you should die except thinking positively of Allah.
لا يموتَنَّ أحدٌ منكم إلا وهو يُحْسِن ظنَّه بالله
