Where do the people of Makkah and those residing in it enter the state of ihram for Hajj?

Question:
I came from Egypt to work in Makkah four months ago. Is it permissible for me to declare my intention for Hajj alone (ifrad) from my home in al-Aziziyah? I ask for clarification, and may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Yes, if the pilgrim arrives and performs the lesser pilgrimage ('Umrah), then when the time for Hajj comes on the eighth day, he should declare his intention for Hajj from his home if he is in al-Abtah or inside Makkah. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who had exited the state of ihram were ordered by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter the state of ihram from their homes in al-Abtah, to declare their intention for Hajj from their homes. So, the one who came to Makkah, finished his 'Umrah, and stayed until the time for Hajj should enter the state of ihram from his home. Likewise, the people of Makkah and those residing in it who are not originally from there: when the time for Hajj comes, they enter the state of ihram from their homes. There is no need to enter the Sacred Mosque, nor is it prescribed to do so; rather, he enters the state of ihram from his location and proceeds to Mina on the eighth day to pray the midday, afternoon, sunset, night, and dawn prayers there. It is not prescribed for them to enter Makkah to perform circumambulation; there is no evidence for this.
