The ruling on a Muslim wishing for death due to an illness he has contracted

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it permissible for a person to wish for death because of a pain he has suffered?
Answer: It is not permissible for him to do so; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited this. It is established from him in the two Sahihs from the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you should long for death because of a calamity that had befallen him, and if he cannot, but long for death, then he should say, 'O Allah! Let me live as long as life is better for me, and take my life if death is better for me.'لا يتمنين أحد الموت لضر نزل به، فإن كان لا محالة فليقل: اللهم أحيني ما كانت الحياة خيرًا لي وتوفني إذا كانت الوفاة خيرًا لي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6351
. This is not a problem; one may say: "O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for me." However, to say: "O Allah, kill me," "O Allah, hasten my death," or "O Allah, hasten my demise," is not permissible for him; because the life of a believer does not increase him except in good. His life may contain good for him. Hours may pass in which he earns righteous deeds: he reads the Qur'an, he glorifies Allah, he prays, he gives charity, and other forms of good.
So every hour that passes for a believer, male or female, and every minute that passes for a believer, male or female, they benefit from it, even if it is by saying: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), or Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), or Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), or La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), or Astaghfir Allah (I seek Allah's forgiveness). Therefore, in the other wording of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) , the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you should wish for death or call for it before it comes, for the life of a believer does not increase him except in good.لا يتمنى أحدكم الموت ولا يدعو به من قبل أن يأتيه فإن عمر المؤمن لا يزيده إلا خيرًا
. So the life of a believer does not increase him except in good; because of the good he acquires: prayers, charity, glorification, praise, declaring the oneness of Allah, reading the Qur'an, seeking forgiveness, and other forms of good. Yes.
