What is better: wishing for life or death?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: What is better, O Shaykh, that we wish for a long life in this world for the sake of righteous deeds? Or that we wish to meet Allah? Or that we do not choose, but rather choose what Allah chooses?

Answer:
The Sunnah is to refer the matter to Allah, as in the authentic hadith where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
None of you should long for death because of a calamity that had befallen him, and if he cannot, but long for death, then he should say, 'O Allah! Let me live as long as life is better for me, and take my life if death is better for me.'
Sahih al-Bukhari 6351
Referring the matter to Allah.
And in the second hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over all creation, keep me alive as long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:258
This contains referring the matter to Him ; because the servant does not know whether his life is better for him or his death is better for him, so he makes the matter His (Glorified and Exalted is He), and says:
O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over all creation, keep me alive as long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:258
, or says:
O Allah! Keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die if death is better for me.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5671
, or similar phrases in which the matter is referred to Allah .

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
