The Ruling on Wishing for Death

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q266: The questioner is Umm Sa'd from the Prophet's City. She says in her question: I have faced several problems in my life that have made me hate life. So, whenever I become fed up, I turn to Allah asking Him to take my life as soon as possible. This is still my wish, because I have not seen a solution to my problems other than death, and it is the only thing that will save me from this torment. Is this forbidden for me?
Vol. 266: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that, and he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Let none of you wish for death because of a hardship that has befallen him, but if he must do so, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for meلا يتمنينَّ أحدكم الموت لضر نزل به، فإن كان لابد فاعلاً، فيقول: اللهم أحييني ما كانت الحياة خيراً لي، وتوفني إذا كانت الوفاة خيراً لي
And one should not wish for death because of an illness or distress that has befallen him; rather, he should be patient with it and seek reward. And what makes a person know that what is after death is easier for him than what
before it, it may be, may Allah protect us, that what is after death is more severe, so the Muslim should be patient and seek reward.
