The Lawful Means of Nullifying Sorcery
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message received was from the listener Madiha bint Saddam from Iraq. She says in her message: What is the action to nullify sorcery? May Allah reward you.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and the final outcome is for the righteous. And blessings and peace be upon His servant and messenger, His choice from among His creation, and His trustee over His revelation, our Prophet, our Imam, and our Master Muhammad ibn Abdullah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his path and is guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows:
The treatment for sorcery is done through two things:
The first is: lawful ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation).
The second is: permissible medicines that have been tried in its treatment.
And the most effective and beneficial treatment is lawful ruqyah. It is established that through ruqyah, Allah lifts sorcery and nullifies it.
There is a third type, which is: finding what the sorcerer did, such as knots or other things, and destroying them. This is also among the causes for the removal and nullification of sorcery.
Among the ruqyah that is used is that the one afflicted by sorcery is treated with Surat al-Fatihah, the Verse of the Throne,, [Al-Ikhlas 112:1], [Al-Falaq 113:1], and [An-Nas 114:1], along with the verses of sorcery that came in Surat al-A'raf, Surat Yunus, and Surat Ta-Ha.
In Surat al-A'raf, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [al-A'raf: 117-119].
In Surat Yunus, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [Yunus: 79-82].
In Surat Ta-Ha, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [Ta-Ha: 65-69].
These noble and great verses are blown into water, and then this water in which they were recited is poured into a larger amount of water. Then the one afflicted by sorcery bathes with it and drinks a little of it, such as three gulps. By the permission of Allah, the sorcery is removed and nullified, and the one afflicted is cured. This has been tried with those afflicted by sorcery; we and others have tried it, and Allah has benefited those who were afflicted by any of it through it.
Seven leaves of the sidr tree may also be placed in the water, crushed and thrown into the water in which the recitation is done, and there is no harm in this. Allah may benefit through this as well. Seven sidr leaves, which are the jujube tree, are crushed while they are green and moist, then placed in the water in which the recitation is done. One drinks what is easy for him from it, and the one afflicted by sorcery bathes with the rest.
This is from the beneficial medicine and the beneficial ruqyah.
There are medicines for those who engage in this matter... and are treated with this matter. These are permissible medicines from which benefit may be derived in treating and removing sorcery, as the scholar Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) indicated in his explanation of the lawful untying of sorcery. The Shaykh Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan al-Shaykh also mentioned this in his book Fath al-Majid fi Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid, in the chapter on what came regarding the untying of sorcery.
As for what concerns visiting fortune-tellers, sorcerers, or magicians, this is not permissible. The lawful path is what we mentioned: reciting over the one afflicted by sorcery, or reciting in water which he drinks and bathes with. If seven green, moist sidr leaves are placed in it and crushed, this may also benefit by the permission of Allah along with the recitation, and this is something that has been tried.
The general outcome for one who uses this with his sincerity to Allah and his turning to Allah in seeking healing is that he is cured by the permission of Allah. The one afflicted by sorcery should be humble before Allah and ask Him frequently to heal and cure him, and he should be sincere in his request, and he should know that his Lord is the One who heals, and He is the One in whose hand is harm and benefit, giving and withholding, and no one else, Glorified and Exalted is He. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you. I do not know what your Eminence’s opinion is on a saying that many who visit the places of sorcerers pass on, saying: "Only a sorcerer can untie sorcery." Some of them say: "I go to the sorcerer to show me the place of the knot so that I can untie it afterwards?"
Answer: Sorcerers and fortune-tellers are not to be visited. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade visiting them and asking them. He said:Sahih Muslim 2230 And he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam).
And sorcerers are disbelievers. It is not permissible to visit them or ask them.
As for this phrase: "Only a sorcerer can untie sorcery," this is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri, the great Tabi'i, that he said: "Only a sorcerer can untie sorcery." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the untying of sorcery, meaning: removing sorcery from the one afflicted. He said:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 13:100 meaning: the one who engages in untying it with sorcery. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 13:100 meaning: untying with sorcery and its types. This is from the work of Satan. Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) and Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with a good chain, and it is found in the chapter on untying sorcery, this hadith.
So the point is: untying sorcery with the Satanic untying that sorcerers engage in is like what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 13:100 Thus said the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him): Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 13:100 So it is not permissible to untie it by the way of sorcerers, meaning it is not permissible to untie sorcery by the way of sorcerers, and this is called untying. But it is untied by the way of recitation and permissible medicines. Yes.

(117) And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. (118) So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. (119) And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased.
In Surat Yunus, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
(79) And Pharaoh said, "Bring to me every learned magician." (80) So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Throw down whatever you will throw." (81) And when they had thrown, Moses said, "What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters. (82) And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it."

(65) They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw." (66) He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]. (67) And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses. (68) Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior. (69) And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."
These noble and great verses are blown into water, and then this water in which they were recited is poured into a larger amount of water. Answer: Sorcerers and fortune-tellers are not to be visited. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade visiting them and asking them. He said:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.
من أتى عرافاً فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يوماًor who goes to a fortuneteller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad.
من أتى كاهناً فصدقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد عليه الصلاة والسلامAnd sorcerers are disbelievers. It is not permissible to visit them or ask them.
