How to perform Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of a deceased person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, in her final question, says: I performed 'Umrah, but I want to perform 'Umrah on behalf of my deceased father. What are the things I must do in such a case, and how do I intend it for my father when entering the state of ihram?

Answer:
The one performing 'Umrah on behalf of another is like the one performing 'Umrah for himself, and the one performing Hajj on behalf of another is like the one performing Hajj for himself. He does what he would do if he were performing Hajj for himself or 'Umrah for himself. He enters the state of ihram from the miqat if he is outside the miqats. If he passes by the miqat, he intends Hajj on behalf of his father or on behalf of another deceased person, or on behalf of one who is unable due to old age or an illness that is not expected to end. He intends it in his heart and says: "Labbaik Hajjan fi fulan" (Here I am for Hajj on behalf of so-and-so), or "Labbaik 'Umran fi fulan" (Here I am for 'Umrah on behalf of so-and-so). Then he recites the prescribed talbiyah:
Labbaik Allahumma labbaik. Labbaik la sharika laka labbaik. Innal-hamda wan-ni;mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika laka.لبيك اللهم لبيك، لبيك لا شريك لك لبيك، إن الحمد والنعمة لك والملك لا شريك لك
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 825Sahih (Darussalam)
.
He continues with the talbiyah, then performs the tawaf with the intention on behalf of the person for whom he is doing it, and the sa'y on behalf of that person, and so on in Hajj, such as stoning the pillars and standing at 'Arafah, and so forth. He intends all the acts on behalf of the person for whom he is doing it, with the intention of the heart. Praise be to Allah. Whether it is Hajj on behalf of his father, or on behalf of his brother, or on behalf of another deceased person, or on behalf of his father who is unable, an old, decrepit man, or his mother who is unable, or any other person who cannot perform Hajj or 'Umrah due to old age or an illness that is not expected to end, the intention of the heart is sufficient. However, it is recommended for him when entering the state of ihram to say: "Labbaik fi fulan" (Here I am on behalf of so-and-so), "Labbaik Hajjan fi fulan" (Here I am for Hajj on behalf of so-and-so), or "Labbaik 'Umran fi fulan" (Here I am for 'Umrah on behalf of so-and-so). For the rest, the intention is sufficient; the intention of the heart is sufficient. Yes.
