Question:
Your Eminence! A questioner asks: Are there specific verses from the Noble Qur'an that are recited over a person afflicted with sorcery or possession, and over one struck by the evil eye? Are they treated the same way?
Answer:
The entire Qur'an is a healing, but among the most beneficial of it is al-Fatihah, by reciting al-Hamd seven times, repeating it; Ayat al-Kursi; and the verses of sorcery in al-A'raf, Yunus, Ta-Ha, and al-Shu'ara. All of this is among the most beneficial treatments, along with reciting[Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat three times. All of this is part of the treatment... and the entire Qur'an is a healing; whatever is recited is among the causes of healing and well-being. However, these are specifically among the greatest causes of healing: repeating al-Fatihah seven times, Ayat al-Kursi, and likewise the verses of sorcery in Ta-Ha and others, in Yunus and others, in Surah Yunus and others, and in Surah Ta-Ha, and in Surah al-Shu'ara. All of these are among the causes of healing, along with reciting [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah preserve you, Your Eminence! Should a patient suffering from a mental illness and tightness of chest, or a patient suffering from an organic illness, recite from the Qur'an over himself?
The Shaykh: Yes, he should perform ruqyah on himself. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ruqyah on himself. So a person should perform ruqyah on himself; all of this is required and prescribed. Among the most important forms of ruqyah is performing it with al-Fatihah,[Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat, and Ayat al-Kursi. This is among the best ruqyah. If he recites al-Fatihah, he should repeat it seven times, and [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat three times, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. When going to sleep, he would perform ruqyah on himself with [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] and the two Mu'awwidhat, reciting them three times into his hands, and then wiping with them over the front of his body (peace and blessings be upon him).
The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you, O Shaykh.
