The Ruling on Hanging Hijabs, Amulets, and Talismans

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: I have two parents who are still alive, praise be to Allah, but they write hijabs for me from fortune-tellers and place them under the bed I sleep on.

The Shaykh: Repeat... Repeat.

The presenter: I have two parents who are still alive—praise be to Allah—but they write hijabs for me from fortune-tellers and place them under the bed I sleep on. When I cleaned that bed, I found a hijab, which consisted of a piece of cloth with a tied thread, cumin, and other grains. I burned it, and we did not inform them of this action. Is my action a disobedience to them, and what do you advise the fathers to do? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
You have done well in what you did by destroying this hijab. Hijabs are an abomination and are not permissible, neither under the bed nor under the pillow, nor worn around the neck or on the arm. All of this is an abomination, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hangs a tamimah, Allah will not complete for him, and whoever hangs a wada'ah, Allah will not grant him peace.من تعلق تميمة فلا أتم الله له، ومن تعلق ودعة فلا ودع الله له
,
And whoever hangs up a tamimah (amulet) has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah).ومن تعلق تميمة فقد أشرك
.
It is obligatory for every Muslim to beware of what Allah has forbidden, and among that are the amulets, talismans, and hijabs that are hung on children, or on the sick, or placed under pillows. All of this is not permissible.
Rather, what is prescribed is recitation for the sick person, such as reading to him, performing ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) on him, and blowing on him with Surat al-Fatihah and other chapters and verses, along with supplication. This is a prescribed matter. As for the hijab called a harz (amulet), and what is similar to it that is hung, this is not permissible, whether it is called a hijab, a harz, or any other name. It is the tamimah (amulet) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade. Whether it is under the pillow, tied around the neck, on the arm, or elsewhere, we ask Allah for rectitude and guidance for everyone. Your parents should repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness. You should advise them with gentleness and kind words, or bring them a student of knowledge to advise and guide them, or direct them to ask scholars known for their sound creed and insight, so that your parents may learn the correct creed and the deeds that please Allah. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
