A listener from Kuwait, (F. M. S), says: Our sister says: I love your program and listen to it a lot. Will you accept this message from me and answer my questions?
First question: Is it permissible to place the Qur'an under a child's pillow and hang the "al-Jami'ah" around the neck?
Answer: It is not permissible to place the Qur'an under a pillow, neither for a child nor for anyone else; because this is a disrespect to the Qur'an, and because this is a belief held by the one who does it that it will protect the child or others, and this is an error with no basis. What protects, by the permission of Allah, are the lawful supplications of seeking refuge, such as when his mother or father seeks refuge for him, saying: "I seek refuge for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and harmful creature, and from every evil eye." Just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge for al-Hasan and al-Husayn with this supplication, saying:Sunan Abi Dawud 4737Sahih (Al-Albani) As for placing the mushaf under a pillow for a child or an adult, this is not permissible; because it is a disrespect to the Book of Allah and a defective belief with no basis. Likewise, hanging the "al-Jami'ah," hanging verses or amulets around the neck of a child, an adult, or a sick person, this is also not permissible; because it falls under the category of hanging amulets from which we have been prohibited. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:557, , so it is not permissible to hang amulets, which are the "haruz" made from written Qur'anic verses, or from "wada'" (beads), or from bones, or from other things that some people do, even if they are from Qur'anic verses; according to the correct view, it is not permissible to hang them. Rather, the Qur'an is recited for healing, it is blown upon the sick person, it is recited over the sick person to seek well-being from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). As for hanging it around his neck or on his arm, whether he is an adult or a child, this is not permissible, and this is among the amulets whose making Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has forbidden. Yes.
