Advice for a wife who does not help her husband be dutiful to his relatives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I have a cousin, and he has seven children. His financial situation is weak, and I am able to help him. My wife, whenever she learns that I have sent him some money, gets very angry with me and stops eating and praying. She has been in this state for five years. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?

Answer:
This is an oppressive wife—may Allah grant us well-being. He should not obey her; he should give charity to his cousin and be good to him. Perhaps he has daughters whom he might marry, and she fears that he will marry one of them. That is her bad assumption.
The point is: he should attend to the matter, give him charity, and be good to him without letting her know. He should not inform her. He should use other means so that he can combine both benefits. He can give charity through another route, secretly, without letting her know anything. He should advise her for the sake of Allah and warn her of Allah. If she does not pray, he is obligated to separate from her. There is no good in her, and yet she helps him cut off family ties. We seek refuge in Allah.
