Obedience to parents is to be in what is right

Question:
A young man, may Allah guide him, and praise be to Allah, but he suffers from his parents’ harassment of him, in that they prevent him from going out with righteous young men, and he suffers at home from entertainment and singing, and he is greatly distressed by that. So what do you advise him? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
If his parents are deviant and order him to deviate, then he has no obligation to obey them. So there is no harm in his keeping the company of the good and going out to a house on his own with his family, because of the bad state in his parents’ house due to sins. And with that, he maintains ties with them and treats them well with kind words and kind actions, and he visits them and provides them with assistance and maintains ties with them, as long as they do not expel him and refuse to accept his ties.
