The Ruling on Obedience to Parents in Not Performing the 'Umrah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: If my parents order me to leave good friends and righteous companions and not to travel with them to perform the 'Umrah, knowing that I am on the path to commitment, is it obligatory for me to obey them in this case?

A: You are not required to obey them in disobedience to Allah, nor in what causes harm; for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
So, do not obey the one who forbids you from the company of the righteous, whether they are your parents or anyone else. Nor should you obey anyone in the company of the wicked. However, address your parents with kind words and in the best manner, saying for example: "O my father, such and such, and O my mother, such and such. These are good people, and I benefit from them and profit by them, my heart softens with them, and I learn knowledge and benefit from it." So respond to them with kind words and a good manner, not with violence or harshness. And if they prevent you, do not inform them that you are following the righteous and staying in contact with them, nor inform them that you went with those people if they are not pleased with it.
But you must not obey them except in obedience and what is good. And if they order you to keep the company of the wicked, or order you to smoke, or to drink intoxicants, or to commit unlawful sexual intercourse, or to do any other of the sins, do not obey them or anyone else in that, due to the two hadiths mentioned earlier. And success is from Allah.
