The obligation toward parents if they fall short in obedience

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a father neglects the Fajr prayer, should he be boycotted?

Answer:
He should be advised and called to good. A father is not like anyone else; even if he were a disbeliever committing major shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is greater than this, a father has a right. Allah said:
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindnessوَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ عَلى أَن تُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفاً
[Surah Luqman: 15], commanding that they be treated with kindness in this world, even though they strive to make their child commit shirk.
So the conclusion: is that the father and mother have a right to be maintained, treated with kindness, and shown gentleness, even if they are in sin or disbelief. However, they are not to be obeyed in disbelief; obedience is only in what is right. But you should be kind to them, be gentle with them, call them to Allah, and be patient with them.
And if he does not pray Fajr in congregation, advise him. Say: "Pray in congregation," using kind words and a good manner. Warn him of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He). Even if he is your father, do not be shy, and do not belittle yourself. Say to him: "O my father, this is such and such," and "O my father, it is obligatory for you to do such and such." You are to be hoped for good (if Allah wills), so hasten to pray in congregation and do not be lax. Advise him.
These people stand up and pray in their homes; they do not attend the mosque?

Answer: They should be advised. The one who prays in his home is in an easier situation than the one who neglects it.
