Question:
If one wakes up in a state of major ritual impurity on a cold day, does he perform dry ablution?

Answer:
Answer: If he fears for his life and does not have anything to warm the water with, then he performs dry ablution. This is because Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: (And do not kill yourselves). Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) performed dry ablution during a military expedition when he was in a state of major ritual impurity from the night; the weather was cold, so he performed dry ablution (may Allah be pleased with him) and led his companions in prayer. When he returned, he informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved his action.
