My mother is elderly and cannot walk except with difficulty due to a joint disease. Is Hajj obligatory upon her, or should we perform Hajj on her behalf?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : My mother is elderly and cannot walk except with extreme difficulty due to a joint disease. Is Hajj obligatory upon her, or should we perform Hajj on her behalf?

The Shaykh : Perform Hajj on her behalf, as long as she is unable to do so. Since this is an illness that is not expected to end, Hajj is performed on her behalf, based on the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father): that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The obligation of Allah upon His servants in Hajj has overtaken my father, who is an old man who cannot stay steady on the mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said:
Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf. نعم حجي عنه
