What is the ruling on performing Hajj on behalf of an elderly person who is unable to do so?

Question:
My father is old, and Hajj is financially burdensome for him. Is it permissible for me to perform Hajj on his behalf, given that I work in the Kingdom?

Answer:
If the elderly person is unable to perform the acts of Hajj, such as tawaf and sa'y, then there is nothing wrong with you performing Hajj on his behalf. A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father is an old man who cannot perform Hajj or travel. Should I perform Hajj and 'Umrah on his behalf?" He said: . A woman came and said: "My father is an old man who cannot stay on the mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: .
So if your father is unable, due to his old age or an illness that is not expected to end, then perform Hajj on his behalf—may Allah reward you with good—if you have already performed Hajj for yourself. If you have not performed Hajj for yourself, then start by performing Hajj for yourself first, so you perform Hajj for yourself and then perform Hajj for him in another year.
