The Beginning of the Zakah Year

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16026 )
Q1: The substance of this question is that he resigned from his government job on 1/5/1412 AH, and he retained the rights he was entitled to, which he received from them on 1/2/1413 AH. The delay in receiving them was due to him, as he was looking for a job to add those rights to it. He invested that money in a project on 1/3/1413 AH. Is there zakah on this money from the date of his dismissal or from the date the project was opened?
A1: The beginning of the zakah year is considered to be from the time you became entitled to the money and were able to take possession of it. If a year has passed since you became entitled to this money and were able to take possession of it, then zakah is obligatory on it. There is no connection between opening the project and that. And what you spent on repairs for the project location before the completion of the year since you became entitled to it and were able to take possession of it, there is no zakah on it, provided that the place of expenditure is not for sale but for use. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
