Q: I work and reside in the city of Riyadh , and the office sent me to the city of Jeddah to handle some business there, on the date of 15 Shawwal 1412 AH. I brought my family with me to perform 'Umrah after finishing the work. We entered the state of ihram from the city of Jeddah after completing the task for which I had come. Do we have any obligation regarding this, given that I intend to perform Hajj this year? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best of good. .
A : If one comes from Riyadh to Makkah intending to perform 'Umrah and has work in Jeddah , it is obligatory for him to enter the state of ihram from the miqat he passes on his way, which is As-Sail, known as " Qarn al-Manazil ", whether he passes by it by land or by air. If he wishes to pass through Jeddah for work, he passes through it while in the state of ihram. As for what the questioner did by delaying the ihram until Jeddah , that is a matter that is not permissible, and he must offer a sacrificial animal (dam) for it, which is slaughtering a fidyah in Makkah to be distributed to the poor in Makkah . His wife is like him; it is obligatory for her to slaughter a fidyah for delaying the ihram until Jeddah . If either of them is unable to offer the fidyah, they must fast ten days in its place. The 'Umrah of each of them is valid, but each of them owes the fidyah as mentioned, along with repentance to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
