Praise be to Allah alone, and may blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. After that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from His Excellency: The Director of the Dawah and Guidance Center in the province of Jeddah, in his letter number (895/9/20/J) dated 16/11/1431 AH, accompanied by the inquiry submitted by: (M. K.) and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (1491) dated 26/11/1431 AH. The inquirer asked a question, the text of which is as follows:
His Eminence the Shaykh: I inform you that I went to the Passports Department to change my children's names, and they told me to submit a request for a fatwa regarding the names, and then the change will be made if there is a violation of the Shari'ah. The names are as follows: 1- Ruh Allah. 2- 'Ayn Allah. 3- Dhabih Allah. I hope you will issue a fatwa for me. May Allah preserve you and care for you.
After the Committee's study of the inquiry, it answered that it is not permissible to name a newborn: (Ruh Allah, nor 'Ayn Allah); because these are among Allah's essential attributes, and Allah's essential attributes are not used for naming. Likewise, it is not permissible to name with: (Dhabih Allah); because there is no basis for this naming with this specific wording, and because of the confusion and misleading nature in these names.
