Q: What is the ruling if the entry of the month of Shawwal is not known until after the sun has passed its zenith on the day of the festival?
A: If they do not know about the festival until after the sun has passed its zenith, they should break their fast for the remainder of that day and perform the festival prayer on the morning of the second day. This is because when the news of the crescent moon reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the end of the day, he ordered the people to break their fast for that day and to go out the next day for their festival. It was narrated by Ahmad , Abu Dawud , and al-Daraqutni .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
