The questioner : He says, "We are seven individuals working on a farm under the sponsorship of a citizen of this country. We are always careful to maintain our prayers. When it is Friday, we want to pray it with the congregation in the mosque for its virtue. However, our sponsor, the owner of the farm, absolutely refuses this. Please note that our absence all together at prayer time does not affect anything and does not result in any harm, but he objects and says that praying on the farm is like praying in the mosque. We tried to have some of us pray each Friday while others stay, but he did not agree to that either. Once, he found us going to the mosque for Jumu'ah prayer, so he got angry with us and deducted from our salaries. Is this action permissible for him? And does sin attach to us for leaving the Jumu'ah prayer in the mosque always, even if it is against our will?"
The Shaykh : This question requires two things in the answer. The first thing regarding the sponsor is that he should be a helper to you in obeying Allah. His helping you to obey Allah is what brings him good and blessing in what you are doing. If he had allowed you to pray on Friday to join the Muslims, and perhaps you would make a supplication for him that benefits him in this world and the Hereafter, that would have been better for him and a greater reward. But the favor is in the hand of Allah, He gives it to whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great favor.
As for the second thing we need in this answer, it is the Jumu'ah prayer regarding you. If you are far from the town and do not hear the adhan, then Jumu'ah is not obligatory upon you because you are excused in that. But if you are close to the town and hear the call, then you pray Jumu'ah, by the saying of the Exalted:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9] And you, praise be to Allah, are among the believers who fall under this address. So it is obligatory upon you to pray the Jumu'ah prayer. But if you are prevented from that by force, then the sin is upon the one who prevented you. And it is not permissible for your sponsor to prevent you, especially since you mentioned in your question that if you go to Jumu'ah, it does not affect the work at all. So what I hope for from this brother the sponsor is that he allows you to pray with the Muslims on Friday, and with the help of Allah, he will find nothing but good and blessing.
