I vowed to slaughter an animal every year from the date my son recovered from his surgery

Fatwa number ( 15438 )
Q: I am a married woman with two sons. One of them fell ill when he was under three years old, and he underwent surgery. I vowed to slaughter an animal for him every year from the date he recovered from the surgery. From that date until today, I have slaughtered an animal for him every year. Four years ago, I supplicated to Allah to fulfill my hope of traveling to Saudi Arabia, and I vowed that if this wish were fulfilled, I would slaughter an animal for my second son every year. Allah fulfilled my hope, and I kept my vow, so I slaughter for both of them every year. My slaughter for them is solely to fulfill the vow I made. However, circumstances arose this year: my father, who was responsible for raising a large family consisting of my mother and my sisters, passed away. We were all affected, and these circumstances prevented me from slaughtering for either of them. I am afraid of this. Please advise me on what I should do, and whether I have committed a sin in this?
A: It is obligatory for the questioner to slaughter the two animals every year for Allah the Exalted
and Majestic; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever vows that he will be obedient to Allah, should remain obedient to Himمن نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه
Sahih al-Bukhari 6696
And if she is unable to do so in some years, the vow remains a debt in her conscience until she is able to fulfill it; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted and Majestic:
And if someone is in hardship, then [let there be] postponement until [a time of] easeوَإِنْ كَانَ ذُو عُسْرَةٍ فَنَظِرَةٌ إِلَى مَيْسَرَةٍ
[Al-Baqarah 2:280]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
