Distributing money equivalent to the value of food among ten poor people as expiation for an oath

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 2432 )
Q1: Is it permissible to distribute money equivalent to the value of food among ten poor people as expiation for an oath? Since the benefit of money is greater at present, and a person does not find ten poor people at the same time together.
A1: Distributing money is not sufficient as expiation for an oath, or for zihar, or for breaking the fast of Ramadan through intercourse, in place of feeding, even if the money is, in his opinion, more beneficial. Rather, he must expiate with the same type of food that his family eats, such as wheat, dates, barley, rice, or the like. This is because expiation is among the acts of worship that must be performed and carried out in the manner commanded by the Shari'ah. The poor people who accept food are many, and people only seek what does not cost them effort, however slight; there is no blame on them for this. It is not required of the one upon whom expiation is obligatory to distribute it all at once, but rather he should do so as it becomes easy for him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
