Fatwa number ( 15125 )
Q: I vowed a sum of money to Allah; is it better to spend this amount on poor relatives, or to spend it on building a mosque, or building a school? Which is better in the sight of Allah?
A: You must spend what you vowed to Allah in the causes of righteousness, such as charity for the poor, maintaining mosques and schools, and supporting the mujahideen in the path of Allah. If there are poor people among your relatives, other than your parents and children, then spending it on them is appropriate, and in that case it will be both charity and maintaining family ties. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
