The sale of silver vessels and trading in their price

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18018 )
Q: I had a set of (Christofle) forks, knives, and silver spoons, and I sold them and gave the cash to my brother to invest this money. Then I took this cash from my brother, and I was traveling for Hajj,
and this money mixed with the Hajj money, which was approximately (12,000) Egyptian pounds, and their profits were approximately (2,000) Egyptian pounds after investing them for 3 years. Is this money lawful or forbidden? And if it is forbidden, what should I do to purify my money?

A: It is established in (al-Sahihayn) from the hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not drink in silver or gold utensils, and do not eat in plates of such metals, for such things are for them (the disbelievers) in this worldly life and for you in the Hereafter.لا تشربوا في آنية الذهب والفضة ولا تأكلوا في صحافها، فإنها لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
Bulugh al-Maram 16
. And in them, from the hadith of Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who drinks in silver utensils is only filling his `Abdomen with Hell Fire.الذي يشرب في إناء الفضة إنما يجرجر في بطنه نار جهنم
Sahih al-Bukhari 5634
. And when something is forbidden, its sale, purchase, and price are forbidden. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to take the price of what you sold of what was made of silver for drinking and eating with, nor to take its profits; because what grows and originates from what is forbidden is forbidden. If you are able to separate this forbidden money, praise be to Allah, otherwise strive to do so, and a preponderant opinion is sufficient in this. The way to get rid of this forbidden money is to spend it in the causes of righteousness without intending it as charity; because Allah is Pure and does not accept except what is pure.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
