Fatwa number ( 13382 )
Q: I am a woman who was afflicted with epilepsy, and I made a vow to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) that if Allah cured me of this epilepsy, I would slaughter ten sheep for Allah the Exalted, one each year. As Your Eminence knows, the circumstances of my livelihood do not allow me to slaughter ten sheep, and I have slaughtered one of the ten. I submit my matter to Allah, then to your excellence, seeking your guidance regarding this vow. Does fasting suffice for it, and how many days should I fast for the remaining nine? Does charity suffice for it, and how many poor people should I feed? Please guide me on how to fast if it is permissible, and how. Please guide me on how to distribute the charity if it is permissible, and is it permissible to transfer it from one country to another? I am a woman of advanced age, 52 years old. I ask for your information.
A: It is obligatory for you to fulfill what remains of your vow when you are able to do so; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
