He wants to be dutiful to his mother at his place of residence, while she wishes to reside in a desolate place

Fatwa number ( 2950 )
Q: I have an elderly mother, and she has no relatives. I am from the south and suffer from hemiplegia, and I reside in the city of Riyadh with my family. I took her with me, and she resides there in a place desolate of people. She has been demanding that I return her to her desolate house, as I mentioned earlier. I refused to return her, as I am unable to assist her there, nor am I able to reside there, and the living conditions are harsh in that remote area for me as a disabled man. However, residence here is better for the children and for me. But I have become confused between the circumstances and pleasing my mother . She has a heart that is almost naive; she does not even understand the days of the week, nor the prayer. Therefore, I ask you to give me a suitable solution, whereby I can please my mother and overcome my circumstances, as I said before.
A: If the situation is as you described regarding her condition and your circumstances, then settle where life is easy for you, and please your mother by providing for her, and occupy her mind with things that deter her from thinking about returning to a desolate place that harms her and is difficult
for her, while taking care of her and providing for her. Do not obey her in returning to that place as long as she has no one there to support her other than you. Your preventing her from going there is not considered undutifulness to parents, but rather it is considered a benefit, a kindness, and dutifulness to her, even if she does not recognize that. Her request to return to a place that harms her is considered what is wrong, and obedience is only in what is right. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
