Her mother was ill and called to him while he was sleeping, and he did not respond to her

Fatwa number ( 5405 )
Q: For two years, my mother has been ill, and I have fulfilled my duty toward her. She prays for me day and night for forgiveness and well-being from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and she is pleased with me. However, she passed away into the mercy of Allah. A week before her death, I stayed awake one night without sleeping with her, and on the second night I slept. In the middle of the night, I heard her calling me, but I did not respond. My sister was attending to her. I asked my sister, “What does she want from me?” She said, “She does not want anything from you; rather, because of the illness, she is calling her children one by one.” In the morning, I asked her, “Do you want anything?” She said, “No,” and she forgave me, saying, “There is nothing in my heart against you, and may Allah forgive you.” I am giving charity on her behalf and asking Allah to have mercy on her, on my father, on our deceased, and on all the deceased of the Muslims, for Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. I am seeking your guidance: Is there a sin on me for not responding when she called me , and what is its expiation so that my heart may be at ease?
A 8: You should have responded to your mother when she called you, especially since you knew she was ill and might have needed something that your sister, who was beside her, could not provide.
However, if she has forgiven you and prayed for you, there is no blame on you. You should be dutiful to her by making supplication for her, giving charity, and maintaining ties with those she loved during her lifetime, especially her relatives. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
