The twelfth question of Fatwa No. ( 3592 )
Q 12: I was, whenmy father fell illand I was sitting with him in the hospital for a whole week. My uncle, who is my wife’s father, was working as a supervisor in the hospital, and he kept making things difficult for me the entire time I was accompanying my father and taking care of him. Because my uncle kept making things so difficult for me, I would forget about my father for some time; for example, I would be late to check on him and urge him to eat, and things like that. I stayed for a week, and the last day I was late to check on him was Wednesday. I took my father out to the house, and on that same day, at dinner, he passed away while I was lifting him. However, I did not give him water to drink; rather, I brought him a doctor, and he told me: “He has departed to the mercy of Allah. May Allah make his resting place Paradise.” So, is there anything required of me regarding him or regarding Allah, the Exalted and Majestic? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
A 12: If the situation is as you described, there is no sin on you in that, except if you knew that you had neglected something that was obligatory for you to do toward him, in which case you should seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
