Q: I have a cousin’s daughter who lives with me in the house. Her father has passed away, and her mother is married. She is engaged to my older brother, who is traveling. She is not observant, but, praise be to Allah, she does not harm the heart of one whom Allah has guided to faith. So, rule for us, may Allah have mercy on you: Should I leave the house? Because it is impossible for her to leave the house, and my leaving the house would anger my two elderly parents. They are observant in Islam, and they might become angry with me and die while angry with me. Is it permissible for me to leave the house and anger my parents, or should I stay in the house without being able to guarantee myself against temptation? Rule for us, O honorable Shaykh, so that the obsessive doubt may be resolved?
A: If the reality is as you described, namely that your parents are in the house and your father is a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to her, and your parents are strict about your staying with them in the house, then there is no blame on you for residing with them, provided you observe not being alone with her, ordering her to observe hijab (the covering prescribed for women), and lowering your gaze from her, while seeking help from Allah and asking Him for well-being. We advise you to hasten to get married, because that will help you to
guard your private parts and lower your gaze, as stated in the authentic hadith:Mishkat al-Masabih 3080 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserves you from immorality; but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting, for it is a means of suppressing sexual desire.
يا معشر الشباب من استطاع منكم الباءة فليتزوج، فإنه أغض للبصر وأحفظ للفرج، ومن لم يستطع فعليه بالصوم فإنه له وجاء
