The third question of Fatwa No. ( 15220 )
Q 3: My father passed away after leaving us a house from his property. My mother, my brothers, and I lived in the aforementioned house. After we reached maturity, I and some of my brothers got married, so we built houses next to our father's house. We considered the old house to be a residence for our mother, out of respect and consideration for her feelings,
and so as not to disturb her with the problems and noise of the children. One day, while I was away from home at work, my mother got angry for some reason and said: “It is forbidden for me to enter this house, or I am forbidden from entering this house,” or something to that effect, meaning that she swore and forbade entering this house, which is my father's house that we left for her. After I returned home, I found her in a state of regret and remorse for what she had said, but we took her belongings out of the aforementioned house and placed them in one of our own houses to comfort her so that she would not remain in confusion about the matter. Our question is: 1 - What is the action that must be performed by her, or by us on her behalf, so that she can return to the aforementioned house if she wishes? 2 - Does she have to pay an expiation, and if so, what is the amount of the expiation? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A 3: It is obligatory for your mother to pay the expiation for an oath if she wants to enter the aforementioned house. The expiation is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If she cannot find [a slave], then she must fast for three days, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Tahrim 66:1-2] the verse, and by this
it is known that this prohibition from your mother is in the ruling of an oath. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(1) O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (2) Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ تَبْتَغِي مَرْضَاةَ أَزْوَاجِكَ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ (1) قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَانِكُمْit is known that this prohibition from your mother is in the ruling of an oath.
