The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 6908 )
Q4: I met a Muslim woman (non-Arab) who was in a hysterical state—she was not fully conscious—but she was aware of the time around her, of the people, and of the place. Her condition required her to stay in bed and rest, and she was constantly repeating her request to pray. I told her that she would recover, by the permission of Allah, and would perform what was obligatory upon her, and that she should never overburden herself. However, after two days, she passed away to the mercy of Allah without performing what she had missed. Do I have a sin upon me, and can I perform on her behalf what she missed, considering that I do not know the number of missed obligatory prayers?
Vol. 4: It is obligatory for the sick person to perform the prayer according to his ability, whether standing, sitting, on his side, or lying down; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both):Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani) It was narrated by al-Bukhari and al-Nasa'i , and this is the wording of al-Nasa'i. It is not permissible for anyone to pray on behalf of another, and if the woman mentioned has lost her mind, she owes nothing, and you are to be thanked and rewarded.
for calming her and giving her good news of recovery. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
