Reason and Ability
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sane person is the opposite of the insane person, so the insane person is not obligated to perform Hajj, nor is it valid for him; because he lacks consciousness and has no intention.
As for the one who is able,Ability is of two types: ability is of two types: ability through one's body, and ability through wealth. So whoever is not able with his wealth, Hajj is not obligatory upon him, such as the poor person, the debtor, and those similar to them. For this reason, we reassure debtors that Hajj is not obligatory upon them, and Allah has not made it obligatory upon them, and until now they have not been eligible for the obligation of Hajj upon them. And we say: Do not worry, does not the poor man not have to pay zakah?
Yes.
He does not have to pay zakah, and yet he does not worry,And he does not say: I wish I were rich so that I could pay the zakah. And likewise, the person who is unable to perform Hajj because of a debt upon him,We tell him: Do not worry, my brother, until now you have not been eligible for the obligation. And if you died, you would meet Allah (Mighty and Majestic) without being sinful; because it did not become obligatory upon you. But unfortunately, some people today commit an error, and you find him drowning in debt, and perhaps his debt is due immediately, yet he goes and performs Hajj, even though Hajj is not obligatory upon him in this case. He comes to something that is not obligatory and leaves something that is obligatory. The riyal or dirham that you spend on Hajj, if you spend it in paying off the debt, it is better for you.
And debt is not a trivial matter for a person to be negligent with it, for it has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: (Indeed, the soul of the believer is suspended by his debt until it is paid off) And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when a dead man was brought to him and he had a debt and did not leave behind what to pay it off, he refrained from praying over him and did not pray over him. And he was asked about the testimony -Meaning: about the man who is killed in jihad as a martyr - does martyrdom expiate for him?So he said: (Yes, and you are patient, counting on reward, facing forward and not turning back, except for debt, for Jibril told me that) .
So martyrdom, despite its virtue, does not expiate debt. For this reason, it is obligatory for a person not to be negligent with it, and if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not guide the poor man who said: (I do not have a mahr), so he did not say to him: borrow for the mahr,But he said to him: seek even an iron ring,He said: I do not find one.
He said: Do you have anything of the Qur'an?He said: Yes.
He said: Go, for you have taken her in possession with what you have of the Qur'an) He did not permit him and did not guide him to borrow in order to get married, even though marriage is obligatory for a person if he has desire and fears for himself.
So what I hope from my brothers is that they strive with utmost effort to clear their consciences and not burden them with debt, for that is foolishness in conduct and an error in the religious aspect. And it is not permissible for a person to borrow, whether a loan or otherwise, except if there is a dire necessity or something that is absolutely necessary, or a person knows that he will pay it off soon, like a man who needs something during the month and knows that at the end of the month he will receive the salary, for example, and pay off his debt, so this is an easy matter.
As for ability through the body in Hajj: So that a person is able to perform Hajj without severe hardship. If he is unable, we look at it; if his inability is expected to end, like a person who comes at the time of Hajj and is ill with a common illness, then let him wait until he recovers and performs Hajj. And if it is an inability that is not expected to end, like cancer, for example - we ask Allah for safety for us and for you -So here we say to him: appoint someone to perform Hajj on your behalf as long as you have the money, so you appoint a person to perform Hajj for you, and your conscience is cleared by that if he performs Hajj for you.
This is what we wanted to speak about regarding this topic, and we ask Allah the Exalted to make us and you among the callers to the truth and its supporters, and we ask Him the Exalted to help our Muslim brothers in every place against their enemies, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions.
Note: Regarding the greeting of peace, is it prescribed for a person to greet while present? And did the Companions, when one of them wanted to ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) about something, say: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and then ask?Answer: No.
And for this reason, there is no need for the greeting of peace because the Muslim is with us, and he only asks, so there is no need to open his question with the greeting of peace.
