Fatwa No. ( 2913 ):
Q: What is the ruling on the remembrance of Allah in a collective manner in unison, as practiced by the followers of the Sufi orders, concluding with the hadrah (known in Morocco as the 'amara), along with the recitation of the Book of Allah the Exalted in a collective manner in unison in mosques, in homes, and at gatherings?
A: We are not aware of any legitimate Shari'ah basis to rely upon to establish the permissibility of the remembrance of Allah in a collective manner, concluding with the hadrah, and the recitation of the Book of Allah in unison in mosques, homes, gatherings, or mourning ceremonies, in this specific form. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were the most deserving of people to follow the Shari'ah, and this practice is not known to have been done by them, nor by the rest of the blessed generations. Goodness lies in following the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
