The questioner : A man who works and studies knowledge loved one of the young men. When he saw that the young man was well-mannered and religious, he said, "I have a daughter, I will marry you to her." He said, "Okay, may Allah reward you with good." There was a group of young men who congratulated this person for this. The man, what did he do? He married his daughter to this young man. This man was acting on his intention. So when he came to the daughter, the daughter refused. He brought her to him and said, "Look at this girl, look at this boy, and you look at this girl." The girl was not satisfied with the boy. Her father tried with her, he tried to please her, meaning in every way. She said, "I absolutely do not want him." He said to her, "Okay, seek guidance from Allah." So she sought guidance from Allah. What was the answer? The answer was prevention, I do not want him. Seek guidance from Allah a second time. She said, "I absolutely do not want him, my heart is not open to him." "Oh daughter!" She said, "Absolutely not." This boy came demanding, saying, "You married me, you married me in front of people, and instead of the witness, twenty [thousand]." He said, "Okay, the girl is not satisfied!" He said to him, "You married me!" So is he bound by this as long as the girl did not consent?

The questioner : Eighteen years old.

The Shaykh : How old?

The questioner : Eighteen years old.

The Shaykh : It is up to her, as long as she is of age, the matter is hers, the matter is hers.

The questioner : He says to him, "You married me, and the people witnessed, and they congratulated me, and now, I swear to him by Allah, he said, 'By Allah, I tried.'"

The Shaykh : But I see that this is not a contract, the picture that you described.

The questioner : He said to him, "By the love that is between you and me, you should not be the one behind this prevention, you, the father of the girl, you should be the one behind the prevention."
