Lesson on "Al-Adab al-Mufrad," "The Chapter on Patience with Harm," the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, number (390)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That is the second hadith in the chapter on patience with harm. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with his authentic chain from 'Abdullah, and 'Abdullah here is 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a distribution of some of what he used to distribute, and a man from the Ansar said: 'By Allah, this is a distribution that I do not think is for the sake of Allah.'"
This is a statement made about the most just of people, namely the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It was said about him: "By Allah, this is a distribution that I do not think is for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)." I, 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, said: "I will surely tell the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." It appears that this Ansari man said this away from the Messenger (peace be upon him) in the presence of the Companions, and 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud was among them. So he said: "I will surely tell the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So I went to him while he was with his companions, and I told him in secret. That was painful for him (peace and blessings be upon him); his face changed and he became angry, until I wished that I had not told him." Then he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6100.
The meanings of the hadith are clear. When the spoils of war came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or due to the wars, or due to the jizyah he took as a result of the truce after the Muslim army's victory, it was his custom (peace be upon him) that when money came to him, he would bring it to the mosque and distribute it among the people. Naturally, he distributed it in a way that considered matters that other people do not perceive. For example, he might give a person more than another. Why? Because of his precedence in Islam, or his good conduct in Islam. It may appear to some with deficient faith and intellect that there is favoritism in it, when in reality there is nothing of favoritism. Sometimes, on the contrary, he would give a person who had recently embraced Islam, with no prior record in Islam and no jihad in Islam, more than one who had a prior record in Islam. Some with limited intellect would object and say: How is this? He only embraced Islam yesterday! He has not even attended a battle! How can he be given more? This person is ignorant that the Messenger is giving him this to win his heart, and he may be a leader among his people, so if he wins his heart, he brings with him those behind him from his tribe. This is the policy of the Shari'ah, and no one is better at it than the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one day made a distribution as was his custom, regarding this explanation we mentioned, and a man from the Ansar said: "This is a distribution that I do not think is for the sake of Allah."
This Ansari man had a limited vision, as I explained earlier, asking why this person is given more than that one, for example. 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this word, so he conveyed it to the Messenger (peace be upon him) and told him in secret; meaning, he said it to him privately. When he (peace be upon him) heard that, it was heavy for him; it was painful for him, the features of his face changed, and the signs of anger appeared on him, until Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) wished that he had not informed him of this news that caused him (peace be upon him) so much distress. So what was the position of the Messenger (peace be upon him) toward this accusation that the Ansari man leveled against him? He did not add to his saying:Sahih al-Bukhari 6100.
In this hadith, there is a reference to the verse:[Al-Ahzab 33:69]. What was their harm? The hadith is as if it is quoted from the verse; that Musa was harmed more than this, so Allah forbade His believing servants from harming. [Al-Ahzab 33:69] Before that, meaning the Jews, what did they do? The Jews were filthy and wicked. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) was constantly bestowing favors upon them, sending prophets to them constantly and forever, until He (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith: . So Allah (Mighty and Majestic), despite His favor and generosity toward the Jews by sending prophets to them constantly and forever to protect them from deviation, from straying, from misguidance, and from ignorance, they were still harsh... they were hard-hearted, as our Lord told us in the Qur'an, in such as His saying: [Ali 'Imran 3:112]. So those who used to kill the prophets without right did not find it difficult to harm Musa. Allah cleared him of what they said. What did they say about Musa, the Jews who were his followers? They said: He is a leper.
I see that the time has exceeded the scheduled time, so we will postpone the completion of this explanation to the next lesson. But I remind you that I will not be present for the next lesson immediately, because I am traveling. The lesson after that will be the meeting here, if Allah wills, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

This bite takes its natural place until the story is repeated, and so on; the woman runs and the cat bites her, so she runs and runs, and the place of the bite becomes sound, so it bites her, and she is tormented by the same instrument that she tormented it with.
In summary, regarding this hadith, it is a common word but it is wisdom: "The stone that does not please you will break you." She locked up the cat, so it was tormented by the fire because of this locking up. We might imagine that this came from indifference; we might imagine that she did not intend to tie it up so it would not eat, but she tied it up and then did not care about it and did not attend to its affairs until it died, so she was tormented by it. And the opposite of that, what is there in putting her shoe or sandal in water, then watering that dog, and a dog is a dog? And if Allah (Mighty and Majestic) forgives this woman, the prostitute, and that man all their sins because of this work that does not fill the eye, but Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as He said:[Az-Zalzalah 99:7-8].
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
First of all, we printed it in the new press, and I only brought two copies. The reason, first... it is expensive for its size, and second, because it is not an independent book. This is the fifth and sixth part of "Da'if al-Jami' al-Saghir." So "Da'if al-Jami' al-Saghir" is like "Sahih al-Jami' al-Saghir" for me; from one to two, three, four, five, six. The Sahih has been printed in full for years, and the Da'if has been printed in four parts for years. Now Allah has made it easy for us, so we printed the completion of the Da'if, the fifth and sixth parts. If any of you has the previous parts, or wishes to acquire this same edition, because there is no connection between this book or these parts and the previous parts... they are independent hadiths with explanations of the majority of the hadiths circulating among people that are weak. This is specific to the Da'if... this is sixteen pounds.

Moses was harmed with more than this, yet he remained patient.
