Do souls meet after death?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Do souls meet after death?

The Shaykh : They may meet, but we do not have a text that is very clear that there is a meeting. All that has come in the authentic hadith is that when a person dies, his soul departs. If it is righteous, it is raised to the heavens, and it passes by the angels, and the angels ask about the soul that passes by them: "What is the state of so-and-so?" They say, "He has died," and they feel sorry that his soul did not pass by them because he is from the people of the Hellfire. This is what is authentic in the hadith. As for the meeting of a soul with another soul and their getting to know each other, we do not have that.

The questioner : The book *The Soul* by Ibn al-Qayyim explains two verses. The first is
(29) And enter among My [righteous] servants (30) And enter My Paradise." وادخلي في عبادي وادخلي جنتي
[Al-Fajr 89:29-30]
, meaning he says to the author of the book, "Where is my clinic?" And the second verse is
they receive good tidings about those
[Ali 'Imran 3:170]
...

The Shaykh : Before that, before that, what is the connection of the verse to the subject of the question?
O soul at peace
What is its connection to the soul and the meeting of souls?

The questioner : I mean, he explains it after death.

The Shaykh : Yes,
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
[Al-Fajr 89:28]
.

The questioner :
(29) And enter among My [righteous] servants (30) And enter My Paradise." وادخلي في عبادي وادخلي جنتي
[Al-Fajr 89:29-30]
And entering Paradise comes last,
And enter among My servants
"my servants" means a place where they meet.

The Shaykh : It is Paradise.

The questioner : In the second verse,
they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them
[Ali 'Imran 3:170]
"and they give good tidings," the author explains that this does not happen except with a group that meets. "They give good tidings" means they talk to each other, there is good news, they give good tidings to the brothers who come after them, that they will catch up with them, the good news.

The Shaykh : Excuse me, what did the Sunnah indicate?

The questioner : I mean, they informed our brothers, who informs our brothers, we did not find with our Lord.

The Shaykh : Yes, but this contains...
