The Shaykh’s mention of the story of Musa (peace be upon him) with his people regarding his bathing and the stone running away with his garment.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: So Allah (Mighty and Majestic), in His grace and generosity toward the Jews, sent to them prophets, constantly and forever, who protected them from deviation, from straying, from misguidance, and from ignorance; yet they were harsh... they were hard-hearted, as our Lord informed us in the Qur'an, such as His saying:
killed the prophets without right
[Ali 'Imran 3:112]
. So those who were killing the prophets without right—no, it was not a great thing for them to harm Musa. So Allah cleared him of what they said. What did they say about Musa—the Jews, his followers?
They said: He is afflicted with a disease in his testicles. And the meaning of "afflicted with a disease in his testicles" is that he was stricken with a condition in his testicles. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) intended to expose this accusation against the Jews through a test—also—for Musa (peace and blessings be upon him); for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) decreed for him what follows: It was his custom—I mean Musa (peace and blessings be upon him)—that when he bathed, he would go far away from the people, bathing in water at a confluence of a flowing river or the like, far from the eyes of people. So Musa (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his clothes and placed them on a stone and entered the water. And behold, he saw something astonishing: he was bathing, and the stone was walking. The stone on which he had placed his clothes was walking as if it were a beast or the like. He became aware of the matter; for if the stone continued to walk, he would remain naked, and at that point people would see him, and this is not permissible in all the religions. So he did nothing but run after the stone, striking it with his staff, commanding it to stop, until he continued walking behind the stone. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) decreed for him a decree so that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) would clear him of that ugly accusation with which they had accused him, until the stone reached near the Children of Israel, and Musa was running behind it. They saw with their own eyes that he was as good as what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created, and not as they claimed that he was afflicted with a disease in his testicles. And the Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
Indeed, there is a mark on the stone of the blow Musa struck it with his staff
.
So his saying (peace be upon him) in this hadith:
Moses was tormented more than this, but he showed patience.
Sahih Muslim 1062b
refers to this story, which is the one to which our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) referred in the previous verse:
be not like those who abused Moses; then Allah cleared him of what they said
[Al-Ahzab 33:69]
.
like those who abused Moses
[Al-Ahzab 33:69]
meaning: the Jews,
those who abused Moses; then Allah cleared him
[Al-Ahzab 33:69]
; meaning: they harmed him with the accusation they leveled against him, so Allah (Mighty and Majestic) cleared him of this accusation. So the Messenger (peace be upon him) refers to this accusation with a gentle, subtle indication:
Moses was harmed with more than this, yet he remained patient.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6100
. The explanation of this accusation came in "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim".
