The Shaykh : Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We have already explained this, so we will not dwell long on undutifulness to parents. Undutifulness to parents is known to everyone; there is no difference in this between the uneducated and the educated, or between the knowledgeable and the ignorant, except in one aspect which I explained to you in a previous lesson. I am now pointing it out briefly so that we do not spend too much time on it. Undutifulness to parents is disobeying them in obedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). That is, if you do not have a parent, and you disobey Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in a certain matter, that matter being what Allah commanded you to do, and your parent commands you to do it, but you disobey him, then in this disobedience you are undutiful to your parents because you have combined two disobediences, or two sins: the sin against the Lord and the sin against the parent. However, if your parent commands you to do something that the Wise Lawgiver has not previously commanded you to do, then you are disobeying your parent and not obeying him. You are a sinner, but you are not called undutiful, because undutifulness is the intensity of disobedience and the exaggeration in disobedience. Its form is that two disobediences are combined in you: disobedience to Allah and disobedience to one of the parents. Please proceed.
