The questioner : The questioner says: "I performed the obligatory Hajj three years ago, and my Hajj was combined with 'Umrah. I completed the rites of 'Umrah and went to perform the rites of Hajj. At the time of the Tawaf of Ifadah, I postponed it along with the Farewell Tawaf. After completing the rites, I entered the Haram and did not perform the Tawaf. I then went to Jeddah to buy some items, and I returned on the same day and performed the Tawaf that day. I left Makkah so that my last act with the House would be the Tawaf. I have now learned that I was required to perform Sa'y before the Tawaf of Ifadah and the Farewell Tawaf. Please guide me in light of this question?"

The Shaykh : This man is from al-Ha'il, and the understanding from his question is that when he descended from Mina having completed the rites, he did not perform the Tawaf of Ifadah because he postponed it for the Farewell Tawaf, and he did not perform Sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then he went out to Jeddah for a need, and he returned, performed the Tawaf, and walked. Based on his question, where he said that he was combining Hajj and 'Umrah, and that he had performed the Tawaf and Sa'y as soon as he arrived, we tell him: You do not have to perform Sa'y, because if the one combining Hajj and 'Umrah performs Sa'y after the Tawaf of Arrival, it suffices him from the Sa'y after the Tawaf of Ifadah. There is no harm on him either when he went out to Jeddah before performing the Farewell Tawaf, because Jeddah is not his home; in reality, he did not leave Makkah for his home or place of residence, but he returned from Jeddah, then performed the Farewell Tawaf, and traveled to al-Ha'il, his place of work. This action is permissible. It remains to be said that he stated in his words that he arrived in Makkah and performed the rites of 'Umrah, while he also says that he was combining Hajj and 'Umrah. It appears that by his statement "I performed the rites of 'Umrah," he meant that he performed the Tawaf and Sa'y, and he thought that it was an independent 'Umrah, whereas in fact he was in the state of combining them.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you.
