The Shaykh’s reminder regarding the recommended practice of suppressing a yawn.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I heard just now, before the previous question was asked, the sound of a person yawning in prayer saying: "Ah." This is a matter of etiquette, or rather, a lack of etiquette. A Muslim neglects this outside of prayer, and the fault is doubled inside the prayer. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say:
So when one of you yawns he should try to restrain it as far as it lies in his power. إذا تثاءب أحدكم فليكظم ما استطاع
Sahih Muslim 2994
So when one of you yawns he should try to restrain it as far as it lies in his power. إذا تثاءب أحدكم فليكظم ما استطاع
Sahih Muslim 2994
What does "suppressing" mean?
and those who restrain anger والكاظمين الغيظ
What is its meaning? It is the one who controls himself and tightens his nerves so that he does not let his mouth open like this with a yawn and say "Ah."
Let him suppress it as much as he can. If he cannot suppress it, let him put his hand over his mouth and not say: "Ah, ah," for Satan laughs at him. فليكظم ما استطاع فإن لم يستطع الكظم فليضع يده على فمه ولا يقول: آه آه فإن الشيطان يضحك منه
And in a narration,
It enters into his mouth. يدخل في فيه
meaning in his mouth. This is the general rule. So what do you say if a Muslim is standing between the hands of his Lord, conversing with Him? If he were to stand before a person, a servant of Allah like him, before a great man, a king, a minister, an emir, or the like, he would be ashamed to open his mouth before him, let alone raise his voice with a yawn. So what do you say about a Muslim who neglects this etiquette while he is between the hands of his Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He? Therefore, I wanted to remind you, and the reminder benefits the believers. Especially since I say, with regret, that you rarely hear such a hadith. What you hear from most teachers, preachers, orators, and guides are repeated matters, while there are things contrary to the Shari'ah that are always and forever repeated, and yet there is no one to remind about them or forbid them. Among these is this hadith that you heard just now... If he cannot suppress it, he should put his hand over his mouth. This is a widespread custom, and people are unaware of it. And there is another thing I remembered just now while we were sitting in that room, and now we are in the mosque, which we hope will be filled with worshippers, if Allah wills.

The questioner : It is requested of the women to listen and pay attention to the speech. The Shaykh
