The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "A Guidance for the God-Fearing"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the first verses, which are apparently about the believers in their outward and inward aspects, Allah the Mighty and Majestic mentioned that this Qur'an is a guidance for the God-fearing. We have previously explained the meaning of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah).
However, in other verses, He mentioned that it is a guidance for people. Allah the Exalted said:
The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people شهر رمضان الذي أنزل فيه القرآن هدى للناس
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
How do we reconcile the two verses, where He says here:
A guidance for the righteous هدى للمتقين
and in another verse:
a guidance for the people هدى للناس
generally, for the God-fearing and others?
We reconcile them by understanding that the meaning of it being:
a guidance for the people هدى للناس
is that it is a proof for people, guiding them to good and making it clear, and likewise guiding them to the places of evil and making them clear. It encourages good and warns against evil. All people attain this through the Qur'an.
As for it being
A guidance for the righteous هدى للمتقين
, the intended meaning of guidance here is guidance of success, meaning that the God-fearing are granted success, so they follow it and benefit from it. Listen to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whenever a surah is revealed, there are among the hypocrites those who say, "Which of you has this increased faith?" As for those who believed وإذا ما أنزلت سورة فمنهم من يقول أيكم زادته هذه إيمانا فأما الذين آمنوا
[At-Tawbah 9:124]
complete.
The student: ...

The Shaykh :
As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, while they are rejoicing. (125) But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has [only] increased them in evil [in addition] to their evil. And they will have died while they are disbelievers. فأما الذين آمنوا فزادتهم إيمانا وهم يستبشرون وأما الذين في قلوبهم مرض فزادتهم رجسا إلى رجسهم وماتوا وهم كافرون
[At-Tawbah 9:124-125]
A single verse became guidance and healing for some people, and became blindness and misguidance for others, refuge with Allah. The believers were increased in faith by it, and they rejoiced. The hypocrites, who have a disease in their hearts, were increased in filth upon their filth, and they died while they were disbelievers. So the God-fearing are those who benefit from the Qur'an, and the more a person increases in taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), the more he benefits from the Qur'an in preserving it, understanding it, and acting upon it.
