A word by the Shaykh on the interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "No disaster strikes on the earth or in yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being. Indeed that, for Allah, is easy"

The Shaykh : In what we heard this evening in the recitation, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hadid 57:22] A calamity may occur on the earth, and this is a general calamity that includes calamities in plants, calamities in settlements, calamities in waters, calamities in winds, and calamities whose types are innumerable, let alone their individual instances. A calamity in souls may be general or specific. An example of a general calamity is if people are struck by deadly plagues; these are general calamities. A specific calamity is when a person himself is struck by a calamity in his body, his family, or his wealth. All calamities are in a register before Allah creates the creation. This register is the Preserved Tablet. Indeed, Allah has written in the Preserved Tablet the measures of all things. So what strikes a person was not going to miss him, and what misses him was not going to strike him.
