That the Friday prayer coincides with the hour in which supplication is answered, and an explanation of the places for supplication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Among the characteristics of the Friday prayer is that it coincides with the hour of response, the hour of response about which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
when Allah gives to a muslim slave standing in prayer whatever he asks for
Muwatta Malik 5:16
This is a great blessing. This is not found in the midday prayer, for example, but it is in the Friday prayer. So the most hopeful times of Friday for response are the time of the prayer. First: because that is what came in *Sahih Muslim* from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). Second: because this is a gathering of the Muslims upon one act of worship under one leadership, meaning one imam. And this gathering is closer to being answered. Therefore, on the Day of 'Arafah, when the Muslims gather on the plain of 'Arafah, Allah the Exalted descends to the lowest heaven, boasts of them to the angels, and answers their supplication. So strive, my brother, to supplicate in this time, the time of the Friday prayer. But when does this hour enter and when does it exit? It enters from when the imam enters until the prayer is completed. So let us look now at when we supplicate? The imam entered and said the closing salam, and after that, what is prescribed?
The student: The sermon.

The Shaykh : No, my brother, that is a mistake. The imam entered and said the closing salam, and after that is the call to prayer. There is no supplication in the call to prayer, but there is a response for the one who calls to prayer. After the call to prayer, there is supplication. That is, between the call to prayer and the sermon, there is supplication. You say after the call to prayer, my brother:
The student: O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer.

The Shaykh : O Allah, Lord.
The student: O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the virtue and the intercession, and raise him to the praiseworthy position You promised him. Indeed, You do not break Your promise.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. Good. This is said after following the one who calls to prayer. Then you supplicate with whatever you wish, as long as the preacher has not started the sermon. You are free to supplicate to Allah with whatever you wish. Also, between the two sermons, you supplicate to Allah with whatever you wish from the good of this world and the Hereafter. Also, during the prayer, in prostration, there is supplication. Yes, in prostration there is supplication. And the closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, as established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The closest you are to your Lord is when you are in prostration. Why? Because this posture, meaning the posture of prostration, is the most complete humility for a person. Which part of you is the most noble? The face. Where do you place it in prostration? On the ground, the place where feet tread. Your head, your forehead, is level with the toes of your feet. With this humility and great lowering, the person becomes closest to his Lord (Exalted and Majestic is He), because whoever humbles himself to Allah, He raises him. The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration. Take advantage of this opportunity. More of what? Supplication. With what do you supplicate? With what you want from the good of this world and the Hereafter. Good. If a person says in his supplication, "O Allah, provide me with a beautiful car," is that permissible? It is permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Let one of you ask his Lord even for the strap of his sandal.
And the supplication itself is an act of worship. So if you supplicate to Allah with any purpose, if the student says, while he is in exam days, "O Allah, provide me with success to the grade of excellent," is that permissible? It is permissible. This is supplication to Allah. You address Allah. What is forbidden is addressing humans, but addressing Allah with supplication is not forbidden. Good. There is another place for supplication in the prayer after the tashahhud, as in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the tashahhud and then said after it:
Then let him choose whatever he wishes from supplication.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:238
And the word "whatever" in the science of principles of jurisprudence indicates what? One of you raise your hand, because there is room for discussion. I am ready for discussion. Please. What is your evidence that the relative pronoun indicates generality?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, this is reasoning with the ruling. That is not acceptable. We want reasoning with what necessitates the ruling.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, that is not enough, my brother. Good, rest. Who has evidence that the relative pronoun indicates generality from the Qur'an or the Sunnah?
And the one who has brought the truth and [they who] believed in it
[Az-Zumar 39:33]
Complete the verse.
Those are the righteous
"Those are" is a plural, and "who" is singular. So what necessitated that the news about the singular be with the plural? What necessitated that is that the relative pronoun indicates generality. And like that, the conditional pronoun indicates generality. And the evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(7) So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, (8) And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
[Az-Zalzalah 99:7-8]
Does this indicate generality or not? Who will answer? Please, stand up and bring evidence for that.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Evidence from the verse for generality.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Good, rest. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned horses and praised them and what is in them of reward, they said: يا رسول الله فالحمر قال : لم ينزل عليّ فيها إلا هذه الآية الشاذة الفاذة فمن يعمل مثقال ذرة خيرا يره ومن يعمل مثقال ذرة شرا يره O Messenger of Allah, what about donkeys? He said: Nothing has been revealed to me about them except this distinct, clear verse: Whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it. This covers everything. So the relative pronoun indicates what? It indicates generality. So the saying of the Messenger (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud:
Then he chooses from supplication whatever he wishes.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:242
indicates any supplication. And as for the saying of some jurists (may Allah have mercy on them): "It is not permissible for a person to supplicate in his prayer for anything from the pleasures of this world", it is a weak saying that contradicts the hadith. And if a person is in an economic crisis, to whom does he turn? To Allah. If we supplicate to Allah the Exalted, so now we have in the hour of response, the time of the Friday prayer, several places or several spots for supplication. So seize the opportunity, my brother. Seize the opportunity with supplication in the Friday prayer, perhaps you will coincide with the hour of response.
There is also another hour in which response is hoped for from the same day, and that is after the afternoon prayer, from after the afternoon prayer until the sun sets. But this saying was difficult for some scholars, and they said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
And he is standing, praying
And after the afternoon prayer, there is no prayer. The scholars answered this by saying that the one waiting for the prayer is in the ruling of the one praying, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He is deemed to be engaged in Salat as long as he waits for it.
Riyad as-Salihin 1065
