A man died and left behind wealth; is zakah obligatory on it if a lunar year has passed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
I say, O Shaykh: A man died and left behind wealth, but the lunar year had not yet completed; he had two months left before the year would be up. I do not know what to do regarding the wealth, as it sat for a period without being distributed to the heirs. So, if the lunar year completes after his death, is his zakah to be paid?

The Shaykh : As for the deceased who died before the lunar year was completed, there is no zakah on him, because he died before the obligation became due. It is like if a person died two days before Ramadan; he does not have to make up the fast.

The questioner : What about the estate, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : As for the heirs, whoever’s share reaches the minimum threshold (nisab) owes zakah if the lunar year is completed from the time of his deceased relative’s death. And whoever has a small amount that does not reach the minimum threshold and does not have what would complete it, he owes no zakah.

The questioner : All right, O Shaykh, may Allah preserve you. I work for one of the organizations.

The Shaykh : Our policy is one question, because there are many people.
